In response to the Willamette Week article Sit. Stay. Beg. Dog owners feel the bite of a failing economy, here's a few LARGE DOG pet friendly apartments in PDX:

• The Ellington Apts - NE 66th and Halsey (503) 254-6571
  Disclaimer: yep, I live here. I had a heck of a time finding ANYPLACE that would take a dog over 35 lbs. These apts are nice and basic. Built around 1947, they have thick walls, hardwood floors, huge closets, and lots of windows for cross-ventilation. The property and the buildings are really well maintained. They may look frumpy, but the location is excellent!


• Bristol Equities Properties - Their Sandycrest property takes large dogs, and some other apt buildings as well. Their properties are wicked charming, if you like old-old school vintage.


• Oregon Humane Society Pet Friendly Rentals - Great listings for the entire metro area. Looks recently updated!

Living Room Theaters

Finally got to go to Living Room Theaters over on SW Stark and 10th, a block south of Burnside, and close to the new Ace Hotel. Happily, for the cheapskate in all of us, they have substantially lowered their prices, from $15/showing to $9.00 general admission. *AND* Monday and Tuesday, all movies are $4.50 at all times.

Next time I want to go early and try the food. Unfortunately, at 7:30 on a Tuesday night there was a sad lack of desserts. They do offer full meals, sandwiches, coffee drinks, and have a full bar.

Saw "Where's Molly" a very gentle, wonderful story of a man searching for his lost institutionalized sister. I believe the films are all digital, and shown using a digital projector, so they still have that 'video tape'/Television quality. For me that's fine once in a while, but I really love how film looks with it's softer edges. Regardless, I highly reccomend the film - great storytelling, great story!

Academy Theater

The Academy Theater The Academy offers pizza, beer, wine, and babysitting. Cheap admission, too. Here's about the theater from their site:

Originally launched in 1948, the Academy Theater was a popular Montavilla destination until its closure in the 1970s. Over the following years, it fell into disrepair, but a full-scale renovation has recently been completed, including careful restoration of the glittering rounded lobby with its soaring, metallic two-story dome. Great attention was paid to every detail of the project. Using vintage photos from the original opening night, even the theater's signature marquee has been recreated to imbue the building with authentic 1940s charm.
